Intel Larrabee Based Graphics Card Coming in 2010 Still

Intel has made a rare public comment on the unreleased Larrabee Based Graphics Card by saying that they are still working on it and that it will be coming out in 2010. Recent rumors have claimed that Larrabee is having some problems when it comes to power (TDP) and the software drivers, but the same rumor starters have also stated that Intel is working on a couple other cards right now as well.

Nick Knupffer who works at Intel Global Communications manager has told Fudzilla that We [Intel] are working on the very 1st version of Larrabee, a new many-core instantiation of the Intel Architecture. There have not been previous versions, those allegations are quite frankly nonsensical rubbish. We are currently working on the very 1st Larrabee product and this Product is due for a 2010 launch, Nick continues. Since Larrabee 3 and 4 have been mentioned a few times by both people very close to Nvidia and ATI, we guess that if Intel is right, these people from the graphics competition have to be very wrong. You can believe what you want to believe but in case Intel had taped out three chips so far, it would not be happy to share that with the rest of the world.

Ewan, The Fringe and The Nokia N97 - part 5

It’s part 5 of Ewan Spence’s ‘real world’ test of the Nokia N97 at the Edinburgh Fringe and it’s embedded below. In this wide-ranging part, he looks at 5800-to-N97 familiarity, at one-handed use, about how parts of the S60 5th Edition interface are like the Mimbari Grey Council (a Babylon 5 reference!), about the lack of a keylock clock (out of the box), about a Facebook widget that’s just sllooooowwww, plus he explains why the N97 should come with the full editing version of Quickoffice, before finishing with some E75 comparisons and the observation that the N97 is like the stunning prom date which goes badly wrong… It’s all below, in Ewan’s inimitable style.

Symbian Two specifications draft is online

Symbian has made available the first draft of the overall top level specification which will make up Symbian^2 (’Symbian Two’). There are several points of interest to pick out, notably the processor support, FAT (file system) performance improvements, the ‘Graphics’ support, the integrated SQLite and the fact that screen size is still fixed at 5800/N97 level. Nothing earth shattering then, but still nice to see Symbian being so open about everything.

Net neutrality: Back in the spotlight for debate

The debate over Net neutrality has reignited as broadband service providers hit the first deadline for applying for funds as part of President Obama's economic stimulus plan. Thursday marked the first deadline for broadband service providers looking to get a piece of the $4.7 billion that will be doled out in the plan's initial phase. In total, Congress has authorized $7.2 billion as part of the Recovery Act to be used to bring high-speed broadband Internet access to consumers and business in areas of the country where service is not yet available or is too expensive.

Many of the large broadband providers such as AT&T, Comcast, and Verizon Communications have decided not to apply for stimulus funds. While some of these companies, like Verizon, said months ago they would not apply for funds, some experts believe that stipulations announced in July requiring recipients to adhere to Net neutrality principles may have kept some of these big operators from throwing their hats into the ring.

August 21 News from Around the Web

Cooler Master Hyper N620 CPU Cooler Review @ Hi Tech Legion and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums!

“When looking for a CPU cooler, you will need to take all aspects into consideration before making a choice. Will you be keeping the computer case on the floor? Is the floor carpeted? How much airflow do you have coming into the case and how much is being put out? Will you be pulling air through your CPU cooler from front to back or bottom to top or straight down (low profile or flat heatsink)? We all know that heat rises, so many of us choose to keep our computers on the floor. This is good and bad, with the enclosure being on the floor a system is prone to pick up more dust, dust increases heat when it gets on or around your cooler fan and heatsink fins causing the cooler to become less efficient. A carpeted floor, besides dust production, retains heat and doesnt allow cool air to enter from the bottom of your enclosure. Believe it or not the best place to keep your system is approximately 6 to8 inches off the ground as this will allow proper airflow around your enclosure and minimal dust intake. Next is how will you pull the air? This is a preference or it may be determined on how much room you have in your enclosure.
The Coolermaster Hyper N620 is an aftermarket CPU cooler that offers a push-pull cooling solution. The Cooler Master Hyper N620 is compatible with all the latest CPU sockets including the Intel Core I7. For this review, I will be testing the Coolermaster Hyper N620 with the fans pulling from front to rear. The Hyper N 620 will be benchmarked against some other popular aftermarket CPU coolers to judge how well it performs on the Intel Core I7 and AMD Phenom II. The other CPU coolers range from bottom to top air flow, push-pull, and flat (low profile).”
